About Heat Pumps

Geothermal Heat Pump Systems provide year round comfort as well as reduced energy costs.  Using the system can cut energy consumption by 20-50%, reduce maintenance costs and improve reliability all while conserving natural resources.  The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have both endorsed GHPS as among the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly heating, cooling and water heating systems available.  GHPS can be installed in residential and commercial properties of almost any size and in new and old buildings.  GHPS offer both heating & cooling in your home or business using one indoor thermostat to switch from one mode to another.  The system unit that is installed inside the building is about the same size as traditional heating and cooling units, but most of the system is installed underground, outside the building.  When installing a GHPS in existing buildings, the existing duct work will work in most cases.  GHPS are versatile, environmentally friendly, reliable, comfortable and safe.

How A Heat Pump System Works

The Geothermal Heat Pump System works by exchanging heat with the earth through a ground heat exchanger using an open or closed loop system. Depending on the available land area at the installation site there are different ways to bury the pipe.  Horizontal installation is less expensive but takes up more land area.  Vertical installations are usually more expensive but are great where there is little land.  Plastic pipes are buried underground and are filled with a water or antifreeze solution.  In winter, fluid within the pipes extracts heat from the earth and carries it into the building.  In the summer, the system reverses itself by pulling heat from the building and depositing into the cool earth.  With a fan located in the residence, the warm or cool air is circulated throughout the building.  Over 70% of the energy comes from the earth because the system only uses electric power to move heat.  The heat from the residence is returned to the earth with the same high efficiency during summer.  The process creates free hot water in the summer and at a substantial savings in the winter.

Preserves environment by minimizing problems such as acid rain, air pollution and destruction of the ozone layer.
Operates quietly with no outside exposed unit.
Uses earth's ground temperature to heat and cool.
Small and large, residential and commercial, new and existing buildings. Homes, Schools, Hospitals, Housing Projects and more.

Benefits

GHPS offer many benefits to Consumers and the Environment.  They are cost saving, reliable and highly efficient. They are becoming the most reliable and competitive heating, cooling and hot water heating systems available.  Some utility companies will even offer savings or rebates to owners installing the systems.  GHPS are a benefit to the environment as well.  They use less energy, are quiet, pollution free and they don't detract from surrounding landscapes.
